Jerry’s Last Mission is the powerful story of fighter pilot Jerry Yellin who flew the last combat mission of World War II over Japan and returned home a hero, but led a dark life of survivor’s guilt and daily thoughts of suicide. Married with four sons, Yellin was forced to face his enemy once again when his youngest son moved to Japan and married the daughter of a Kamikaze pilot.

The documentary was directed by Louisa Merino and co-produced by Melissa Hibbard and Oscar winner Ed Cunningham.

The documentary was previewed online November 9-13, 2020 to coincide with Veteran’s Day. Zoom Q&A sessions with the film makers were sponsored by The David Lynch Foundation, which was hosted by David Lynch Foundation CEO Bob Roth, Director of Veterans Programs Vin DeCrescenzo, and  President of Operation Warrior Shield, Ed Schloeman, and by Regnery History, which was hosted by Alex Novak.

Please join us for a lecture and book signing with Don Brown and Jerry Yellin on their book, The Last Fighter Pilot (Publish Date: July 31, 2017). This event is free to attend, however books must be purchased in the Reagan Library Museum Store to receive signature. Books may be pre-purchased during the reservation process.

The Last Fighter Pilot is the account of Captain Jerry Yellin, who flew the last combat mission of WWII on the morning of August 15th out of Iwo Jima. Captain Yellin is a sharp, engaging, 93-year-old veteran whose story is brought to life by New York Times bestselling author Don Brown (Treason).

ABOUT THE MOVIE:
Last Man Standing tells the transformative story of American fighter pilot Jerry Yellin, one of the last living veterans of WWII. Jerry enlisted to fight the Japanese after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He returned home a decorated pilot but suffered severe PTSD for years. It was only when he found Transcendental Meditation, decades later, that he began the road back to himself. Then in the 1980’s, one of his sons moved to Japan and married a Japanese woman – the daughter of a WWII Kamakaze pilot. Jerry was once again confronted with his decades-old fear and hatred as he faced an old enemy as his new family and opened his heart to the possibility of acceptance and love.

Now at the age of 92, Jerry starts a new chapter of his life. After mourning his wife of sixty-five years, he is confronted with the quiet and solitude of growing older and living alone. As he reflects on his remarkable journey he also looks forward to what the future has in store for him. He packs up his house and moves to Florida to make new friends and hopefully find a bit of love and companionship along the way. He travels the globe sharing his inspiring story with audiences both young and old. Last Man Standing offers a unique glimpse into the extraordinary life of a near-centenarian whose goal is to help transform people’s lives.
